What do you like about being a teacher?

There are many things I like about teaching, but, ultimately, I enjoy the work because I find it rewarding. In my opinion, there is nothing more satisfying than helping a student achieve their goal. This might be, for example, helping students prepare for a job interview at a multinational company, assisting them with preparations for an important examination, or helping them to boost their confidence and speaking abilities for an upcoming business arrangement.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

My preferred method of teaching is a communicative approach which involves a practical and real-world application. Though I believe that grammar is an essential part of the learning process. I also feel that it must be learnt in a way that will allow them to use it on a day to day basis. I always seek to make the student see how the grammar and vocabulary we teach can be of benefit to them in their daily routines and interactions with English speaking colleagues or clients.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

While studying for my degree in Spanish and Psychology, I discovered my passion for teaching during my Erasmus year in Spain and then went on to complete my teacher training course during my final year at university. After this, I worked with the British Council as a teacher’s assistant in the north of Spain, an experience which allowed me to study first hand practical teaching approaches for differing age groups. Following this, I made the move to Italy where I taught for two years in private academies and state schools, teaching both adults and children and helping them to prepare for a range of different exams.

Do you have any extra tasks at Angol Intézet?

As well as teaching, I have also been involved in much of the preparation for the KD courses, at one point being responsible for the development of the courses structure. Since then, In the role as academic coordinator, I have been tasked with the various responsibilities involved in establishing Wesport, Angol Intézet’s new English school for young learners which will be opening in September.

What is your message to students/future students?

I would say that in my opinion, the secret to learning a language successfully is to enjoy it. Immerse yourself in the culture through books, films, TV programmes, and current affairs. Never think of the learning as a chore but as an enjoyable journey to a wider world.

What do you like about being a teacher?

The most rewarding aspect of being a teacher is seeing the positive impact a new language has on students’ lives, both academically and personally. I´ve seen students who began their first class at level B1 and finished qualifying as an English Teacher themselves; students who in their first class told me that their dream was to visit London, who now live and work in London. Watching a person learn, grow in confidence, and succeed can be incredibly rewarding.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I believe in a student-centered approach that involves fostering active participation, critical thinking, and self-correcting. My primary goal is not just to impart knowledge but to cultivate independent learners. It´s important for my students to understand the “why” behind the language, so that their learning can be self-driven. Furthermore, relevance is paramount- I make a point of only teaching English language that they can use in their daily lives- vocabulary and grammar that natives actually use in real-life situations.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I have been working in the field of Education & Languages for over 10years in Italy, Spain, the UK & the USA, in private and public schools, academies, The University of Deusto, in companies and online as an English Teacher, Director of Academy, and Translator. Prior to Angol Intezét, I worked as a freelance Business Coach & English Teacher for private and corporate clients at immersion courses where clients would practice International Business etiquette and Language skills. I also delivered online classes and worked as an Examiner for the Cambridge University Exams, which I still enjoy to this day.

What is your message to students/future students?

I encourage you to link your personal goals to your English studies, to see how confidence in the target language can be a powerful tool in achieving your aspirations. Research consistently shows that students who approach their classes with enthusiasm and a love for learning improve at a much higher rate than those who view education as an obligation. I encourage you to set personal goals, to challenge yourself, and find joy in the process of learning. When you are intrinsically motivated, the results are not only visible in your academic achievements but also in your personal and professional growth. Learning and then mastering a new language opens doors- it can and will change your life.

What do you like about being a teacher?

Being in an environment where learning is going on is very motivating for every participant, teachers and students alike. Learning is always a collaborative effort in the classroom, which makes the whole experience very focused and turns the classroom into a small world of its own. Also, every classroom has a different dynamic, every group is unique in the way how they work with the same learning materials.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

A little bit of everything. I think there should be a balance between focus on language, i.e. grammar and vocabulary, and focus on receptive and productive skills. But since most students learn English in order to be able to communicate and to use it in their life / work, I consider the main goal to be the development of fluency. Putting fluency first and supporting it with grammatical structures, words and expressions and various micro-skills is the main principle that I follow.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I have been teaching one-to-one since I started university. This gives me a chance to work with students with different needs: Business English, exam preparation, communicative courses, grammar-focused courses etc. Also, I was lucky enough to teach at a Hungarian high school, Trefort, for almost 5 years before I started working at Angol Intezet.

Do you have any extra tasks at Angol Intézet?

Besides teaching, I write articles for our website or work on some extra materials, like our mini dictionaries. I’ve also taken part in developing our teaching materials.

What is your message to students/future students?

It’s very easy to get hooked on learning English. You just need to find the thing that really interests you, be it literature, watching series, chatting with others, work, news etc. and support it with a little bit of active learning and your development will go into overdrive!

What do you like about being a teacher?

Meeting and working with learners of different backgrounds, learning styles, and motivations. I love having the opportunity to use my skills to help others achieve their learning objectives. I also learn a lot from my students on a daily basis, so it’s never a boring job!

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I’m always open to experimenting with different methods and approaches in teaching, especially if a particular approach suits one individual student’s learning style and motivation; I feel that this way, students feel more comfortable, enjoy my lessons, and as a consequence, retain more information. My favourite method is the communicative approach; in my opinion it is the most productive method. It means that learners have the chance to use their natural strategies for language acquisition, and it allows them to learn to use the language in a practical, and appropriate way.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I worked as Director of Studies at a reputable school in Rome, Italy. I was responsible for leading a team of teachers, teacher training, coordinating a complex school timetable, operations, and quality assurance. Before that, I worked in the City of London for an Insurance Broker, however teaching has always been my real passion.

What is your message to students/future students?
Enjoy it! If you spend too much time focusing on the long-term objective and on your mistakes, it will become frustrating. Learning a language is a long, complicated process and it doesn’t happen overnight. My advice is to have fun and you’ll forget that you are learning!

What do you like about being a teacher?

I like the fact that every day is different and every single day of teaching matters. Being a teacher has the ideal combination of challenges, creativity and fun. I also love meeting new people and contributing to achieving their goals.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I believe that teaching and learning should be done in a fun, interactive and communicative way and regardless of the age, level or goal of my learners, this is always my main principle. I also think that the materials and the topics I choose should have real-life relevance to the learners instead of lessons done out of habit. Partly because of this, I find it extremely useful to use and exploit emergent language in the classroom, thus making the lessons as learner-centred as possible.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I lived and worked as an English teacher in Malaysia for 5 years before moving back to Hungary a few years ago. I have taught students from more than 40 different countries, aged 6 to 75 with various needs. I have experience in teaching exam preparation classes, Business English, general English, debate clubs, public speaking courses, etc.

Do you have any extra tasks at Angol Intézet?

I am one of the teachers responsible for finding the right levels for new students.

What is your message to students/future students?

Don’t give up, there aren’t any shortcuts, but the work you put in always pays off. Experiment with different ways of learning on your own, try to find the best ones that work for you and share these findings with your trainers so we can support you more effectively throughout your language learning journey.

What do you like about being a teacher?

I like meeting interesting people and helping others make a change and achieve their goals. I love the variety: no two students or two lessons are ever the same!

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I prefer teaching communicatively and get students talking as much as possible. I like adapting my lessons to my students’ needs and using authentic materials. At the same time, I believe in the importance of knowing why to use what, so finding the right balance is key. My favourite areas are improving speaking and listening skills, as well as learning new vocabulary and of course blended learning.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I have been teaching for 10 years, so I have plenty of experience of working with students aged 12 to 70+ from different (cultural) backgrounds. I worked at various schools in different positions, including being a Study Centre Manager and an Assistant Director of Studies. Before joining Angol Intézet, I lived and worked in the U.K. for 9 years, so I have a very good understanding of what a non-native speaker needs to do to maximise his/her opportunities when learning and using the English language.

Do you have any extra tasks at Angol Intézet?

Besides teaching, I’m also responsible for Teacher Training, so I try to make sure that our teachers continue developing professionally by observing classes and mentoring them, and that they get the necessary new ideas they need to improve their teaching by holding practical workshops on various requested topics.

What is your message to students/future students?

Everyone can learn to communicate in English if he/she is prepared to put the work in. Everyone learns differently, so we just need to find the right way. Unfortunately, there’s no quick fix but hard work always pays off!

What do you like about being a teacher?

What I like about being an English teacher is the variety and autonomy it offers. I am never really doing the same thing twice – I always have to adapt lessons to the particular group, student, goals, or teaching circumstances. Even if I am repeating something, there is always room for improvement; I can always do it better next time and I am free to decide how to do it.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

Teaching principles that I believe in are: recycling and repetition of vocabulary and tasks for long-term learning results; giving students lots of space to experiment, make errors and self-correct, and encouraging learner autonomy and critical thinking about their own learning; learning vocabulary as phrases rather than individual words and focusing on the high-frequency vocabulary of every day and work English that students are likely to hear or need to use.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

Prior to joining the Angol Intezet team, I had already been working as an English teacher in Budapest for 5 years.

What is your message to students/future students?

My main message to students is that there is no ‘magic pill’ or ‘quick fix’ for learning English. In my experience, students who achieve the best results are the most consistent and persistent. They attend every lesson, do regular homework, practice extra at home, and do not get discourage in the face of difficulty, but rather see mistakes and failures as opportunities for growth. Those students are rarely the strongest or most confident in the beginning of the course, but are often top performers by the end.

What do you like about being a teacher?

I really enjoy being part of a language learner’s discovery. The best part is where you realise something together. In this profession you are also always learning, which is great.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I like my sessions to be student-led. I suppose, if I have to put a label on it, I prefer the Dogme approach to any other. The focus must be on what the language learner needs and desires. I constantly revisit and re-evaluate the needs of the language learner.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I have tried my hand at many different things in my working life. I have been a cleaner, a bartender, a shoes salesperson, a banking sales advisor, a sales assistant in a high fashion store, a labourer, a sound engineer, an SEN teaching assistant and I was training to be a history teacher before I decided to move to Hungary. I have been an ESL teacher in Hungary since 2015.

What is your message to students/future students?

Language is about communication. If you’re able to understand someone and they can understand you, the battle is won.

What do you like about being a teacher?

That’s not an easy question as there are so many things I love about teaching. Maybe what I enjoy the most is the interaction with students – we constantly learn from each other, we open up the world to one another. For me, teaching a language goes beyond vocabulary items and grammatical structures, it is about immersing oneself in a different culture and way of thinking.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I enjoy teaching through communicative methods with plenty of pair and group work. I strive to give students as many opportunities as possible to engage in discussions.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

The past 8 years I have been an English teacher in various language schools but prior to teaching and parenting I worked in the UK as a Personal Assistant and a Legal Secretary at a multinational company.

What is your message to students/future students?

Be daring and courageous when trying to get your message across. Worry less about the accuracy of your grammar and just simply say what you want to say. With practice, everything falls into place and you’ll be speaking great English before you know it.

What do you like about being a teacher?

My favourite thing about being a teacher is seeing my students stop being afraid to speak up and becoming more confident in themselves and their abilities. I love watching my students succeed and figure out that they can do what they set their minds to. I’m also a people person so I love meeting and interacting with new people from all over the world. I learn so much from everyone I meet and I really enjoy that.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I’m pretty flexible as a teacher because I’m used to teaching all ages and levels of competency. However, I prefer a communicative method of teaching because I feel that learning a language should be useful, as well as relatable and fun. So, I usually do a lot of group and pair work. We also talk a lot and play lots of fun games in class.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I worked at the English Language Teaching Unit at the department of Science at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. I’ve also worked in several other language schools including the British Council in Sri Lanka. I am also an IELTS speaking examiner.

What is your message to students/future students?

Never be afraid of making mistakes. You are doing your best to learn a language that is very different from your own language. If someone makes fun of you for trying to do that, they are a horrible person and you should never let them discourage you. Also, no matter what you do when you’re learning English, make sure to do something you enjoy and don’t let anyone tell you that what you’re doing isn’t ‘proper’. It’s about you and what you need to learn and if you’re having fun, that task will be a lot easier.

What do you like about being a teacher?

I really like when I can help motivated and enthusiastic students to fulfil their potential. When a learner wants to come to my class and leaves feeling that they have made progress then I feel happy to have contributed in a small way to their progress.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

My aim is always to give students the tools they need in order to be successful language learners. To that end, I encourage autonomy and reflection so that learners can feel confident in exploring the language individually. As well as that, I love to encourage communication as that’s what learning a language is for!

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I worked in language schools in Vietnam, Korea and Spain. Before all of that, I worked in computer programming.

What is your message to students/future students?

Little and often is the key to language-learning success. Do something every day, however small. Take responsibility for your learning by seeking out useful resources and using authentic materials. Speak English every opportunity you get. And ask your teacher loads of questions smile

What do you like about being a teacher?

What I enjoy most is being able to help people on their language journey and empower them to achieve their goals, whether personal or professional. It is incredibly rewarding to see students gain confidence and make progress. I also like the challenge that comes with each new student, class and topic, and trying to find the most effective and engaging way to deliver the lesson. Teaching is a constant learning process for me too.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

I think it is important to be flexible and identify which method best suits the student(s) in question. What works for one may not work for another although the common thread in my teaching is a communication approach. My primary focus is to create a safe learning environment where students feel at ease to practice and experiment with language and know they have my input and support.

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I have been teaching English for 17 years, mostly in the MENA region (Tunisia, Libya, Algeria, Morocco and Qatar), and also in Poland, Estonia and Kazakhstan. I have taught all ages, from very young learners to adults, business English and preparation for IELTS, for which I was briefly an examiner.

What is your message to students/future students?

There is no short cut for learning a language, it needs consistent effort but dedicating even a little time every day can help you make progress. Most of all, don’t get discouraged by mistakes – by making mistakes you are creating a learning opportunity for yourself and that is how you grow.

What do you like about being a teacher?

The people I get to meet, definitely. There are always so many amazing people from all walks of life in the groups who all have different stories and motivations for taking a course with us – this is what really keeps me going.

What is your preferred method of teaching?

My aim, in every single lesson, is to give students something they could use right away. I think this is also part of the school’s philosophy: to help you do a successful job interview, take part in international meetings with ease or make an effective presentation – practical, real, useful knowledge. And of course to have fun with English! 🙂

What did you do prior to Angol Intézet?

I started teaching English in 2006 however I decided to take a break form it in 2014. I took on an office job at a multinational company, but after 4 years  – cheesy but true – I realised that my true passion is indeed teaching, so I returned. I’ll never forget that my last day in the office was a Monday, and two days later I was already discussing an upcoming course in Angol Intezet. Fun fact: my first lesson after this 4-year break was on the following Monday evening with a KD group here at the school.

What is your message to students/future students?

Have fun with English and use it whenever you can! No English is too little to start with – yes, grammar is important, but what’s even more important is that you use it, even if you make mistakes at first. We are here to help you with the rest.

And ask your teacher loads of questions 🙂

Emellett különböző pedagógiai diplomák (többek közt a PGCE, Postgraduate Certificate in Education, ami tanári végzettséget ad) is relevánsak lehetnek.

CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), a 7-es szintű angol tanári képesítése pedig a DELTA (azaz Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults).

A Trinity College London 5-ös és 7-es szintű angol tanári képesítései pedig a CertTesol (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) és a DipTesol (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

Ezen kivül minden évben nyelviskolánk egyik szakmai vezetője minden tanár órájat többször is meglátogatja, melyről nemcsak részletes visszacsatolást ad, hanem egyéni konzultációt is tart, hogy a további fejlődést elősegítse.
